Mega Man X - Fan art

Hey there. This is my latest personal work.

Its been quite a while since iīve modeled anything,so a few weeks ago i decided to do something to hone my skills a little bit.

So,i grabbed the Mega Man X toy i had as a gift, and took a bunch of pics of it and modeled it in 3ds max. The plan was to learn more about materials and lighting, and i did learn a lot. I hope to make some more stuff in the future and donīt let too much time pass between projects like this one.

The original plan was to model the toy,and put him in a simple scene, just thrown there, like a... well, a toy. But then i started to have these ideas and i really wanted to do some cool experiments with particles and energy and stuff,so... this is the result, a Mega Man X toy that somehow has come to life and it charging his energy cannon to destroy... other toys :P.

Like usual, i spent way more time doing this than i originally planned, but im really happy with the results.

Thanks a lot to Tuqueque btw, he helped me a lot with the materials and lighting and i learned some very cool stuff from him.

Anyways, here it is! Made with 3ds Max and post in After Effects.

Comments and critics are more than welcome

Edit:

Btw, it really annoys me to see how the image looks here and in my portfolio, because of the banding problem in the background. I try hard to get rid of that in my renders and later to avoid it in post, and i had to look and read info about compression and color depth and the likes; i donīt remember having had that problem before, but im realizing that when one works with simples gradients as backgrounds, the banding its a kind of a recurrent problem.

Anyways, with some trial and error i managed to get rid of it almost completely in my final image, using the highest quality settings for the final output, but i didnīt remember about Cg Talkīs file size limit,so, i had to compress the image and when i saw it uploaded... there was the damn banding in the background again .

So, is there a way to avoid that? Should i have uploaded a smaller version of the image with higher quality? Having a quick look at the cg choice gallery,im realizing that almost all images that have simple gradients as backgrounds have banding problems to some extent... so, am im worrying too much? Why is it that images with a very high degree of detail,in the foreground as well as in the background, almost always look pristine clear, even when theyīre compressed, and the ones with fewer details and simple gradients have that banding problem?

Well... rant off . I tried to upload a higher res pic here, but the attachments here have size limit too,and tinypic compresses the images so, i dont know how to do it.

Hereīs however,a pic showing some fun i had experimenting with the colors of Mega Manīs different outfits :

Hey there. Ive been wanting to do something like this for a while now, and finally i found the time to do it. I followed some of the tutorials of the VideoCopilot website, they are really really great.

I initially planned to make a very quick test, but as it usually happens with my "tests", i spent way more time on it that i originally planned.

I know there are tons of videos in youtube and whatnot with this same theme, but i tried to give this my personal touch. And i really learn a lot doing it.

I hope you like it,and any opinions are welcome.

Im using this as promo material along with the trailer, while i keep animating. I think i will have it ready by the year 2032 (who knew making a short was so difficult? :S )

Here is the trailer in case you wanna see:
I used 3ds Max, rendered with scanline and light tracer. Some post work done in Photoshop.

Thanks a lot to Gianfranco (darkshine) who has helped me (among others) from the beginning of this project.

I hope you like it. Any comments are welcome.

I had to do it really quick because of the deadline and the amount of work i had in that moment;there are some details i would have like to fix but here it is.

Well, hereīs a personal project iīve just finished; i did the model to use it in an animation for my portfolio, but i liked a lot the result so i wanted to do a still image with it.

I tried to do a biologically (to a certain extent) correct brain, but i didnīt found any tutorials on how to make it in 3d max so i had to start to do it and experimenting, and i found a way that got me where i wanted to go, more or less.

I wanted the final image to look like a poster for an old horror movie, like those made in the forties and fifties.

Although its was a simple project, and i didnīt know much about textures and lighting and the works, i learned a lot doing it and was happy with the results; the final animation was a 2 minute walk through the instalations.
